Carole J. James

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Carole James is a lifelong SD resident and grew up on a farm, in western SD. Carole graduated from Northern State University in 2003 and went on to pursue her law school degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.  Carole graduated in 2006 and was admitted to the SD Bar.

Carole began work as a Deputy State’s Attorney for the Minnehaha County State’s Attorney’s Office in 2007 prosecuting juvenile delinquency and CHINS cases. For the next 12 years, Carole handled hundreds of cases, numerous trials and contested hearings, along with direct file to adult court and/or transfer hearings. During her time in the MCSAO, Carole also sat on numerous juvenile related committees in the community aimed at keeping kids out of the system and helped expand juvenile diversion opportunities, as well as creating a diversion program to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system. During those 12 years, Carole became an expert in juvenile law and gained extensive courtroom experience, which she brings to her current litigation practice with The Krause Law Firm.

Carole uses her prior personal and professional experiences to zealously represent clients in business and property transactions, family law issues, as well as assisting clients in estate planning/administration, and ultimately litigation if necessary.

When Carole is not in the courtroom, she enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, as well as family and friends, and being active in the community.
